Electrochemical Sensor for Water Quality Monitoring
Goal: Develop a portable, field-deployable sensor to detect harmful algal bloom compounds (e.g., pyocyanin) in aquatic environments.
What We Did:
- Designed and built a three-electrode electrochemical sensing system using graphite working/counter electrodes and a silver wire reference electrode.
- Developed a custom potentiostat circuit for high sensitivity and portability, inspired by low-cost research designs.
- Integrated the sensor with an underwater robotic platform for autonomous data collection.
Outcome:
Achieved reliable detection in lab trials with a compact, cost-effective design suitable for future field deployments.
FPGA Development Board (iCE40UP)
Goal: Create a flexible FPGA development board for embedded system prototyping and hardware acceleration experiments.
What We Did:
- Designed a custom PCB integrating the Lattice iCE40UP FPGA with USB communication via FTDI interface.
- Provided GPIO breakout headers, power management, and easy integration with sensors and peripherals.
- Optimised board layout for signal integrity and manufacturability within a compact, two-layer PCB design.
Outcome:
Delivered a reliable dev board for internal testing and prototyping, enabling quick validation of FPGA-based designs.
M.2 FPGA Accelerator Board
Goal: Build a compact FPGA accelerator in M.2 form factor for AI and machine learning applications.
What We Did:
- Designed a high-speed M.2 PCB integrating an FPGA core for hardware acceleration tasks.
- Added PCIe edge connector support for seamless integration into laptops and embedded systems.
- Focused on tight power delivery design and controlled impedance routing for high-speed data lanes.
Outcome:
Delivered a manufacturable, high-performance accelerator board ready for integration into AI/ML workflows.
